Much has changed in Sudan since the first edition of this guidebook was published in 2005. Following the peace agreement that ended the civil war of 1983–2005, southern Sudan is newly accessible to adventurous travellers. Bradt's Sudan continues to be the only guidebook dedicated to this emerging destination. This new edition offers full coverage of the southern towns of Juba, Malakal, Wau and Rumbek, and provides information on recently demined driving routes. It also details the increasing hotel and restaurant options in Khartoum, and Sudan's developing wildlife tourism.

 • The Bradt guide continues to be the only guidebook that focuses solely on Sudan, a destination with growing tourist appeal • This second edition offers detailed coverage of southern Sudan, which is newly accessible to visitors

 • Coverage of recently demined overland routes, plus new information on the improved access to the Nuba Mountains

 • Full details of the many new guesthouses and restaurants in Khartoum

• New information on Sudan’s emerging wildife tourism destinations

Reviews

"It may seem a strange time to be publishing the first guide devoted entirely to Sudan, but hardy travellers have long been discovering the wonders of Africa’s largest country so this book is very welcome all the same. Despite the crisis in the currently inaccessible region of Darfur in the west of the country, the author optimistically includes it as well as creating a yearning to see the archaeological treasures of the ancient kingdom of Kush, explore the lmatong mountains, meet the bejewelled women of Kassala market and taste bush – a poor man’s alternative to a bean stew."
The Observer, Feb 2005

Reader Reviews

"In the past I have used [other guidebooks] when travelling to countries such as Syria and Libya but they do seem to concentrate on the negative aspects of the countries so it was great to see how Paul Clammer's obvious enthusiasm for Sudan came through in the book. I can't wait to go now."
Carol Tabor, UK

“At first glance, it looks most interesting and well set out and I look forward to reading it more as a book than a guidebook.  Congratulations.”

Lorna Kingdon

“...we would like to compliment Bradt company and of course Paul Clammer for the Sudan Guide."
