This is the first and only English-language guide to Abruzzo, a region that lies just an hour's drive from Rome, yet has never been discovered by mass tourism. Written by an author born and bred in the region, it explores Abruzzo's three national parks, where skiing, hiking and wildlife-watching opportunities abound. It takes visitors to Abruzzo's beaches, which have been voted some of the best in Europe. It tours ancient hilltop towns, Neolithic caves and Roman ruins, and offers detailed practical information including transport and accommodation options for all budgets.
• The only English-language guide to Abruzzo
• Written by a native Abruzzese
• Abruzzo is one of Italy's last remaining gems to be untouched by mass tourism
At a Glance
The recent Most Beautiful Villages in Italy program update sees Abruzzo as the region with the second-most number of villages named as the most beautiful in Italy. Abruzzo comes in runner-up to Umbria and joint second with Liguria.

Notes from the Author
Note about 2009 Earthquake
The earthquake of 2009 took the lives of many and had an enormous physical and emotional toll on all Abruzzese in Italy and beyond. As a testimony to the now collapsed churches and landmarks, the guide weaves its original descriptions of these with current and up-to-date information on rebuilding efforts and the general situation in and around the L’Aquila area.
