So who's Hilary Brandt then?
Hilary Brandt is a figment of your imagination, but don't worry you're not the first to make this mistake. It was Hilary Bradt who founded the Bradt Travel Guides company. There's no 'n' in Bradt, so there's no excuse for pronouncing it 'Brandt' unless you have a cold! The name Bradt (and its variant 'Brott') is of Norwegian origin, whilst Brandt (and several variant spellings including 'Brant', 'Brand' and 'Brent') comes from an old Germanic word meaning 'sword'. The name Brady is unrelated to either and is Irish/Gaelic in origin. For more about Hilary Bradt, who she is, and what she does, visit her personal website and blog: www.hilarybradt.com
